How To Talk To Your Parents

June 5, 2019

“There is something about being loved and protected by a parent (or guardian) knowing that I can be loved for who I am, not what I can do, or might one day become."

Many pre-teens have issues talking to their parents about personal problems. Sometimes pre-teens may feel like their parents will react negatively to their issues if they talk to them about it.

For example, I have a close friend who is often scared to tell her dad about the things that are personal to her, such as how she feels about boys. Her dad gets really upset when she talks to boys, which makes her afraid to talk to him.She feels if she tells her dad about her boyfriend, he  will not trust her.

One solution to my friend’s issue could be to talk to her dad one on one about how she feels about talking to him about boys. She can explain how it makes her feel about not being able to be open about important issues to him. Another solution is that she can be clear and direct about how she feels towards his reactions to her truths and explain how she wants him to trust her. All of these things can help establish a better relationship between the two.

My mom and I have a great  relationship, because we are open with each other. I can tell her anything, and she tells me right from wrong. I really trust her, because she does not get upset with me when I tell her the truth about my problems.
