About the Founder
Founder & Executive Director, Felicia Ernest
Felicia Ernest is the Founder and Executive Director of GIRLS and the Letters We Write Project, an organization that caters to the growth and creativity of girls. Her goal is to help graduate strong, independent young women who are ready to take on the world. Positive actions such as community service help to mold young ladies into women who are passionate about serving and leading others.
Felicia had the idea to start a girls organization in 2010 during her junior year in college. As a young girl, Felicia attended many events that catered to young girls which inspired her to start her own organization. She began writing in journals when she was in middle school. "I wrote in journals because it was an outlet. I would write letters to my future self and read them to remind myself of what I wanted to accomplish. I would write down my goals and prayers for myself and my family and friends. I still have all of my journals that I wrote from middle school all the way to college. I read them every once in a while to remind my self of how blessed and thankful I am and to remind myself of my dreams and aspirations. This was the inspiration for the name of the organization."
Felicia is passionate about the youth and aims to help young girls reach their dreams and accomplish every goal set for their life all while serving their community, empowering other girls, promoting a healthy lifestyle and making education a number one priority.
Felicia was recognized in November 2016 by Essence, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Kelly Rowland, Solange, Beyonce and the BeyGood Foundation for her recovery efforts in Baton Rouge after the August 2016 flooding that devastated hundreds of families. She was awarded Baton Rouge Hometown Hero.
Felicia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations from Sam Houston State University, a Master of Liberal Studies in Organizational Leadership from Fort Hays State University and a Graduate Certificate in Digital Marketing from Walden University. She also holds a teaching certificate in the state of Louisiana.
